Scammers are calling citizens using real names of our staff, requesting money and/or gift cards. Their scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and we need the community to be aware and vigilant in their efforts to evade these scams.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER: Call you to request money; ask for payment via apps like Zelle or Cash App; or threaten you over the phone for missing jury duty. We will also never ask you to go to your bank or to use a Bitcoin machine for any payment.
WHAT TO DO:
- Hang up immediately if you receive such a call
- Do NOT send money
- Report the scam to local authorities
- Stay alert. Stay safe.
