The Internal Affairs Section is the administrative investigative arm of the Sheriff. At the direction of the Sheriff or the Chief Deputy, IA investigates allegations of misconduct by Sheriff's personnel or other professional standards issues. These allegations may originate internally through members of the Sheriff's Office or externally via the citizen complaint process. Internal Affairs conducts administrative investigations into shots fired by Sheriff's personnel incidents and into any serious injury of death in custody incidents. IA also conducts a staff review of all use of force and use of canine occurrences.
