The Dive Team Unit is used for
both water rescues and underwater search and recovery of
evidence, lost or stolen
property and vehicles and the recovery or drowning victims. Their
equipment includes a hover craft, hydrospeeder
underwater camera equipment, surface air supply delivery system,
and a command trailer with the latest in
communication equipment.
There are currently 15 members on the dive team. This number
involves 12 divers and 3 surface support personnel. All members are volunteer and are always on call.
Several team members also volunteer for special events such as
parades and safety fairs to educate
the public on water safety. The Dive Team was started by Sheriff
Leis after the 1989 Miamitown Bridge Collapse.
