Court Services Division

 

The Court Services Division is the heart of the HCSO's security & court order services. This division is commanded by Major Dale Menkhaus. Major Menkhaus joined the HCSO upon retirement from over 30 years of service with the City of Cincinnati Police Division. 

The Court Services Division has deputies assigned throughout its four sections to handle a variety of tasks. Duties include maintaining security for Common Pleas courtrooms and the county court house, serving writs, subpoenas, summons, and other court orders, and processing extraditions. These duties are mandated by the Ohio Revised Code and assigned by statute to the Sheriff's Office in each of the 88 counties throughout the state of Ohio.

Sheriff's Office Pipe and Drum CorpsIn addition to the various sections of the Court Services Division, this division is the sponsor for the agency's Pipe & Drum Corps which is well known for performances at memorials and other functions throughout the county.

 

 

 

The Court Service Division has deputies assigned throughout its four sections.

Court Service Courthouse SectionMetal detectors in Courthouse

Deputies with Judge Nurre Uniform deputies provide security for all common pleas courtrooms, and handle the primary law enforcement and investigative duties for the courthouse. Deputies in this section escort prisoners to and from judicial proceedings in common pleas courtrooms.

 

 

Process Unit - is responsible for processing and service of over 51,000 writs, subpoenas, and other court orders throughout the entire country.

K-9 Bomb Detection Unit - is available to all area agencies requiring services of an Explosive dog / handler team.

Juvenile / Domestic Relations Court / Security Section

Court Security Unit - uniformed deputies provide security for several county buildings, Juvenile Judges and all Domestic Relations hearings and Courtrooms. Deputies in this unit escort prisoners to and from judicial proceedings in these courts and handle the primary law enforcement duties in county buildings.

Execution Section 

Execution Section represents the Sheriff’s Office in the areas of property foreclosures, Sheriff sales, and various court orders relative to property possession and / or seizure as determined by the court.

Fugitive Warrant Section

Fugitive / Special Warrant Unit - annually handles over 8,000 warrants resulting from indictments, capiases, probation violations, foreign warrants, extradition’s, local and Governor’s warrants. Duties of fugitive detectives are to apprehend and process wanted persons.

Probate Unit - has the responsibility for transporting, service of process and apprehension of individuals under the jurisdiction of Probate Court’s Mental Hygiene Section.

Transportation Unit - transports approximately 4,000 prisoners annually to and from penal institutions throughout Ohio and when required, returns fugitives to Ohio when apprehended in other jurisdictions.
