Records Division

WebCheck

magnifying glass on fingerprintThe Records Division announces implementation of new technology used to improve processing speed of civilian background checks for agencies such as schools, nursing homes, and day care centers.  The cost for this service is $20.00 per transaction and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Results are returned usually within 72 hours, compared to 4-6 weeks for standard submission of fingerprint cards.

This service, provided in conjunction with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation uses the World Wide Web to electronically transfer fingerprints and other data from the inquiring agency (the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Records Division) to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation (BCI).  The fingerprint and information from the applicant's driver's license or Ohio identification card is encrypted and electronically stored in the computer.  The computer then sends the scrambled information over the Internet to BCI's computer, which automatically compares the information against the fingerprints and criminal histories stored in the state's Automated Fingerprint Identification System database.  Results are then sent back to the Records Division.  If the check finds no criminal history a final report is printed by the Records Division.  If the background check finds a criminal history, the Records Division will notify the requestor that information from BCI will follow in the mail - no criminal history is sent over the Internet.

The WebCheck service can be used by school districts, education associations, children's hospitals, and other public institutions.  WebCheck is playing a key role in lowering the risk of violence in our schools by providing timely and accurate information to those who work with our children and other vulnerable citizens of Ohio.
